The designers at One Plus Partnership Limited have ingeniously adopted the concept of a "staircase" as the central theme for the Mezzi Master Bookshop. The staircase, often associated with upward movement and progress, perfectly symbolizes the process of acquiring knowledge and gaining wisdom through reading. This theme also resonates with the Chinese name of Mezzi Master’s parent company, which translates to "stepping upwards".
The bookshop's most striking feature is its enormous dark red sculptural staircase. This iconic structure serves multiple purposes - it acts as a product display platform, seating for readers, and encourages visitors to explore different levels of the store. The design of the staircase is such that the lower end of each step curves slightly inwards, adding a dynamic and rich vibe to the space.
Complementing the staircase theme, the bookshelves in the store are custom-made to resemble vertical stairs. This design element not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the store but also creates a sense of continuity and coherence in the design. The materials used in the realization of this design include cement, acoustic panel, terrazzo, granite, steel, tiles, mosaic, and crystal glass.
Located in Changsha, China, the Mezzi Master is a four-storey cultural centre with a bookshop and exhibition space, spanning over 2150 square meters. The design project was completed by One Plus Partnership Limited, a design firm known for its innovative and creative solutions.
The Mezzi Master Bookshop is not just a retail space but an embodiment of the transformative power of reading. Its unique design and thoughtful execution have earned it the Golden A' Design Award in 2017, a testament to the designers' prodigy and wisdom. This award is granted to creations that reflect extraordinary excellence and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
With copyright belonging to One Plus Partnership Limited since 2016, the Mezzi Master Bookshop stands as a testament to the firm's innovative design approach and commitment to creating spaces that inspire and engage. It is a shining example of how architecture and design can be used to create spaces that are not just functional but also deeply symbolic and meaningful.
